Almost Bold: Walking by faith and not by sight and bumping into stuff

Life Notes
When I stuttered as a young man I would consciously try to say the most meaningful sentence I could with the fewest words. I see this in the most masterful writers, preachers, but especially poets.
Perhaps poetry taught me more than did systematic theology. My most inspired moments were in the aisles of Gotham Books, an old haunt of TS Eliot and other greats. It was a place of light and quiet in the noisy New York City afternoons. The Holy Spirit brushed by many times amid the smell of old books.
For example here is a bit of repentant realism from Christian Wiman, probably the best living Christian poet.
“For I am come a whirlwind of wasted things
and I will ride this tantrum back to God
